Although Miranda Ramirez won her 12th straight singles match, Syracuse (6-9, 3-5 Atlantic Coast) lost a tight 4-3 contest on Sunday afternoon against No. 50 Florida State (12-8, 5-5) in Tallahassee, Florida.

The Seminoles started well, winning the doubles point handily. The first match completed was third doubles. FSU’s Gabriella Castaneda and Daniela Schippers defeated SU’s Maria Tritou and Nicole Mitchell, 6-0. Second doubles finished soon after, which Nandini Das and Ariana Rahmanparast of Florida State won almost as easily, defeating Syracuse’s Dina Hegab and Anna Shkudun, 6-1.

First doubles was close to being a consolation victory for Syracuse, but was abandoned with Miranda Ramirez and Gabriela Knutson leading 5-2. The result didn’t matter once the other two doubles matches both went FSU’s way.

Florida State carried enough momentum into singles. In sixth singles, Rahmanparast made quick work of Mitchell, winning 6-0, 6-3. Florida State’s Andrea Garcia won her third point in fifth singles, defeating Hegab, 6-4, 6-1. The clinching point for Florida State came in the third singles match. No. 103 Julia Mikulski defeated Shkudun, 6-3, 7-6 (6-2).

In second singles, Gabriela Knutson defeated Das in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2. Syracuse’s fourth singles player, Tritou, also won. She defeated Schippers, 7-5, 2-6, 6-3.

Ramirez won her No. 1 singles match for SU, defeating Castaneda 4-6, 6-3, 6-2. One of Ramirez’s streaks ended in her match with Castaneda. When Castaneda won the first set, it ended a streak of nine-straight sets won by Ramirez. She kept her larger streak alive though, as this was Ramirez’s 12th consecutive singles win.

Syracuse returns home for two matches next weekend. In the first, they host North Carolina State on Friday at 3:00 at Drumlins Country Club.
